Yann Guyader finishing first
With a spectacular victory in Zurich the French Yann Guyader has strengthened his leading position in the WORLD INLINE CUP considerably. Just the same did the Colombian Cecilia Baena with the ladies. About 1,800 skaters started on the banks of the Zurich Lake collecting points for both the WORLD INLINE CUP and the SWISS INLINE CUP.
At the beginning the weather conditions had been ideal. The race track along the Zurich Lake was lined with spectators, who did not make a difference between kids, juniors, fitness skaters and the world’s elite skaters. They celebrated all participants equally and brought them to their best performances.
The men’s competition was dominated by the question, who among the three leading athletes in the overall ranking Yann Guyader (FRA/Powerslide Matter) and Diego Rosero (COL/Rollerblade World) as well as Joey Mantia (Luigino Atom World), an extraordinary talent from the USA, would be successful this time. An unsteady weather forecast made it exiting, too. Keeping this in mind and looking at the dark clouds, the race began extremely fast. Having done three of six laps the rain started and Diego Rosero became a prominent victim of it. After falling down he had to give up. Nevertheless speed was increased strongly accompanied by some breakaways – but in vain. A mass sprint yield the result and Yann Guyader made his way before Alfredo Moreno (Bont South America) from Venezuela and Joey Mantia.
The ladies were using more tactics and the race was clearly dominated by the two top teams Bont Wheels and Powerslide Matter. Whereas above all Cecilia Baena with her team-mates showed an extraordinary competence, as if she could never lose the race. According to the men’s race, the field skated closely together towards the finish line. Thus a breath-taking fight for the best positions began. One more time the Powerslide Matter Team could show its superiority with a treble. Cecilia Baena, Jana Gegner (GER) and Giovanna Turciarelli (Italy) play in a completely different league this year.
The Rollski Cup taking place within the context of the WIC Zurich celebrated a successful premiere. Before the professional inline skaters got on the track, the rollski skaters turned the heating right up along the banks of the Zurich Lake. The most prominent participant on rollskis was Seraina Mischoll, the winner of the Engadin Skimarathon 2009.
The chase for points is going on
Already on Saturday, 27 June, an absolute classic racing event of the WORLD and SWISS INLINE CUP, the Engadin Marathon, will take place. The race from Maloja to S-chanf is named to be the fastest and highest inline race in the world.
