A GALA PERFORMANCE

The WIC weekend in Geisingen started with a grand opening. The probably most modern, beautiful and architecturally most spectacular inline track in the world was inaugurated with a race week-end. Everybody who is anybody in the inline scene has been in Geisingen, in the German state Baden-Württemberg, only half an hour from the Swiss Border away. Not only the gala on Friday evening was fantastic, but also a real firework display of inline speed track races took place. Thousands of spectators from home and abroad came to see exciting races. Geisingen was bursting at the seams and there was almost no available parking space, too. First, the races stated on Saturday with the preliminary rounds and finished with the finals in the evening hours. The extremely fast track made sure that there was a festival of thrilling competitions and pulsating finals. Moreover, some new world records were set and top speeds up to 50 km/h were not unusual. Also kids and juniors made their races in the arena, a location that can really be called “temple of inline skating”. The cup of the young blood offered some exciting and entertaining hours for their parents and other people in charge. However, the most outstanding event of the race week-end was the men’s point race over 15 km. Bart Swings won by an extremely narrow margin before the Colombian Andres Munoz, who has been quick as lightning, too. See the results on the ranking list below! All in all, a successful start of the fist WIC track race in the new arena in Geisingen, an example of architecture realized by Sabine and Thomas Uhrig. It will certainly guarantee many more spectacular races in the future.
