Successful first stop for the WORLD INLINE CUP 2025 in Funchal, Madeira (POR)

Aura Quintana (ESP) from SheaStokes Speed Inline Team wins ahead of Luz Karime Garzon (COL) from NL-Racing Team

Andres Felipe Gomez (COL) wins the men's race ahead of Patxi Peula (ESP) both NL-Racing Team

Berlin, 22^nd March 2025 – This year's WORLD INLINE CUP series began with a top-class field of stars in the capital city of Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira. In addition to the reigning marathon world champions Nolan Beddiaf (FRA) from the MANAO FRSKATES WORLD TEAM and Luz Karim Garzon (COL) from NL-Racing Team, both male and female top athletes from over 10 countries lined up on the starting line. The 3.3 kilometre circuit took place directly at the Funchal marina with cruise ships and a wonderful panorama in the background.

In the men's race, Patxi Peula and Andres Felipe Gomez from NL-Racing, together with Carlos Tarazona (ESP), SheaStokes Team, were able to pull away from the rest of the field quite early on. As the race progressed, both Nolan Beddiaf and last year's winner from Paraguay Julio Mirena (SheStokes) tried to catch up with the leading group, but neither of them succeeded. In the end, team-mates Gomez and Peula decided the victory between them, with Andres Felipe Gomez crossing the finish line first. Carlos Tarazona (ESP), Sheastokes was able to prevail at the finish line in an exciting sprint to the finish in the chasing group and thus take third place.

In the women's race, the starting field initially stayed together for longer. Aura Quintana, Luiz Karim Garzon, Jorun Geerts (BEL) Doubleff World Inline Team and Gabriela Rueda (COL) from NL-Racing Team took it in turns to take the lead. Finally, Quintana and Garzon pulled away from the field and delivered a thrilling sprint to the finish, which Garzon won. However, due to an infringement of the rules during the final sprint, the referee's decision relegated Luis Garim Garzon to second place and Aura Quintana to first place.

The individual and team ranking of the WORLD INLINE CUP after the first race of the season will be online shortly.

The next race of the highest international marathon series for inline speed skaters will take place on 25 May in Rennes (FRA).

The WORLD INLINE CUP (WIC) is since 2000 the highest international marathon series for inline speed skaters. The world´s best skaters take part in the world's most demanding and biggest marathon races in Europe and Asia and meet fitness skaters from all over the globe. The overall winners will receive prize money after the season. Since 2014 the organizer of the WORLD INLINE CUP is IGUANA Deutschland GmbH
