ONE WEEK TO GO UNTIL THE BMW BERLIN MARATHON INLINESKATING 2023

THE FINAL OF THE WORLD INLINE CUP

Berlin, 16 September 2023, In one week it's that time again. The traditional final of the WORLD INLINE CUP, the world's largest speed skating marathon series, will be held on Saturday, 23 September in Berlin. With over 4,500 skaters, the season final will be celebrated at the world's largest inline marathon in the German capital. Top skaters and fitness athletes from all over the world will once again skate together through Berlin and finish through the Brandenburg Gate. This year, there were already four WIC classification races in France, Portugal (Madeira), Italy and China held.

Decisions for the overall winner in individual and team ranking still open

After the WIC races in Rennes, France, Funchal, Portugal (Madeira), L'Aquila, Italy and Harbin, China it will only be decided at the finish line at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin who will take the WIC crown this year, both in the women's and men's races. In the women's category, the race for this year's WIC crown is particularly exciting. Currently, Aura Quintana Herrera, COL leads the overall ranking by 12 points ahead of Marine Balanant, FRA (BONT Europe Team). Furthermore, Noraly Berber Vonk, NEL, Marine Lefeuvre, FRA (EOSkates World Team) and Lianne van Loon, NEL (Double ff) will race for podium places.

In the men's ranking, the newly crowned multiple world champion Bart Swings, BEL (Powerslide Racing Team) is currently leading the overall ranking before the final in Berlin. Last year's overall winner Nolan Beddiaf, FRA (EOSkates World Team) unfortunately had to take a break at the stations in Funchal, POR and L'Aquila, ITA due to an injury he suffered at the first WIC race of the season in Rennes, FRA, so that he is currently in 9th place in the overall ranking before the final. Swings' teammates Jason Suttels, BEL and Felix Rijhnen, GER are currently in 2nd and 3rd place in the overall ranking.

In the women's teams, the BONT Europe Team is currently ahead of the EOSkates World Team, followed by the SAM Roller Team from Ukraine. The Rollerblade World Team is currently in 4th place.

In the men's team ranking, the overall victory seems to be in the hands of the Powerslide Racing Team this year. It could still be exciting between the Rollerblade World Team and the EOSkates World Team in the race for second and third place.

"2023 was a successful season with races in France, Portugal, Italy, China and the traditional final in Berlin at the world's biggest inline marathon. We hope for a great end to the season with fast times and a good atmosphere and thank all the organisers for their efforts to bring the sport of inline skating to the streets. We also wish the organisers in Sarasota, USA on 29 October every success with the WIC Associated race", says Volker Schlichting, Executive Director of the WORLD INLINE CUP.

The award ceremonies for the overall winners will take place again this year at the Skater Party starting at 9 p.m. at the Metropol club on Nollendorfplatz in Berlin Schöneberg.

One more WIC race outside the overall ranking this year

The WORLD INLINE CUP Associated Race will take place on 29 October 2023 in Sarasota, USA respectively. The race will take place outside the overall standings due to the race date but are labelled WIC races within the competition calendar.
