Berlin, Funchal, 31St May 2024 – Just a few days remain until the much-anticipated kick-off of the 25th season of the WORLD INLINE CUP in the charming city of Funchal, Madeira. This year marks the beginning an important season, promising thrilling races and exceptional performances from top-tier skaters.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Madeira's capital, Funchal, renowned for its incredible landscapes and vibrant culture, the opening marathon on 2 June is expected to attract again many visitors and participants. The event will feature a variety of activities, including inline skating events and the grand highlight: the WORLD INLINE CUP Marathon.
The competition will be fierce with a remarkable lineup of top athletes and teams. Last year's WIC champion, Aura Quintana (COL) from the SPSPSK World Team, will be defending her title against strong skaters like Alicia Delhommais (FRA) from Rollerblade World Team or Lianne Van Loone (NED) from the DOUBLEff World Inline Team. Joining her are strong international male skaters like for example Patxi Peula (ESP) of the Rollerblade World Team, the 2017 WIC champion, Hugo Gerard (FRA), the fourth-placed in the 2023 WIC overall ranking, Carlos Tarazona (VEN) from the new SheaStokes Inline Speed Team and the local favorite Antonio Freitas (POR) from the Madeira WIC Team, who secured fourth place last year in Funchal.

Technical Details of the Marathon
The Madeira Roller Marathon, a Class 1 event, will start and finish at Avenida Sá Carneiro. The course comprises 17 laps of a 3.3 km circuit, totaling 42 km. The event will start in the morning at 9.00 am with 100m sprint competitions and Mini Marathons for young talents from 9 to 15 years old. The highlight of the day, the WORLD INLINE CUP Marathon will start at 11.30am.
