Patxi Peula (Spain) and Nana Lee (Korea) win first ever race of the global premier speed skating series held in Harbin

The city of Harbin was for the first time a host for the WORLD INLINE CUP. With more than one thousand participants in all races, the WIC TopClass race was a big event in the Manchurian Capital in the North of China with skaters from 15 countries competing for WIC points. Athletes from Venezuela, Colombia, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Estonia, Spain, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, Netherlands, France, Czech Republic, Thailand and New Zealand celebrated the comeback of the WORLD INLINE CUP in China.

Hot race on a fast course

The course stretched over 6400m on six hot and windy laps along the riverside of the Songhua River in Harbin. In the leading group Spaniard Patxi Peula (EO Skates World Team), Elio Cuncu from Italy and Jakob Ulreich from Austria (EOSkates World Team) were changing positions with Yann Guyader (Rollerblade World Team) from France and Ondrej Suchy from the Czech National Team. After four laps Jakob Ulreich started a breakaway followed by Patxi Peula. Finally, Patxi Peula was the first crossing the finish line, followed by Jakob Ulreich and Yann Guyader.

“It is a pleasure to race again in Asia. The Chinese spectators were so enthusiastic and welcomed us very warmly. We put on a good show in tough conditions and hopefully we’ll all be back in 2018 to make it an even bigger success. Thumbs up for the organizer from Harbin and IGUANA for building up this event”, said Yann Guyader after the race.

In the women’s race, strong skaters from Korea and Columbia were competing against Ana Odlazek from Slovenia. The group stayed together until the finish and Nana Lee from Korea won before Daniela Lindarte Garaviz and Stephanie Hurtado Malagón from Colombia.
