Swings wins in less than an hour despite windy conditions
Already in the second of eight laps, the Belgian Bart Swings (Powerslide Matter World Team) and Frenchman Ewen Fernandez (RollerBlade World Team) broke away and stayed together until about the last two laps. At this point, Swings could leave Fernandez behind and finish the race on his own in a top time of 59:52.428, despite the windy conditions. Fernandez came in second; Swing’s team mate, Felix Rijhnen from Germany, was third.
Geoffroy wins close women’s race
Unlike the men’s race, the women’s race saw a top field of skaters stay together until the finish line. Eventually, Chloé Geoffroy (Powerslide Matter World Team) of France had the edge over Li Sishan from China and Anna Odlazek from Slovenia.
